Hubert Lee Pope

November 11, 1951 - February 24, 2018

Mr. Hubert Lee Pope, a Berry resident, passed away at his residence on February 24, 2018 at the age of 66.

Mr. Pope was retired as a control operator for the East Bend Power Plant, a division of Duke Energy.  He was a Staff Sergeant of the U.S. Army and faithfully served his beloved country for 6 years.  He was a member of the Short Creek Baptist Church and the  American Legion Post of Falmouth.  He was a cattle farmer, loved horses, goats, hunting and was a huge UK basketball fan.

Mr. Pope was born in Petersburg, KY to the late Clifford Pope and Mary Cook on November 11 ,1951.

On April 21, 2007, Hubert was united in marriage and survived by his lovely wife, Darla Sue Holtkamp.  In addition to his wife Darla, Mr. Pope is survived by one son, Joel Pope (Allison) of West Terre Haute, IN, two step sons, Jeremy Gripshover (Kelley) of Independence, KY, Jacob Gripshover, of Independence, KY, two daughters, Sarah McDaniel of Crittenden, KY, Marissa Wagner (Rob) of Berry, KY, two brothers, James Pope (Linda) of Florence, KY, Jeffrey Branham of Cincinnati, OH, one sister, Emma McNay (Billy) of Belleview, KY, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his former wife Debra Pope in 2002.


Visitation will be Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 5-8pm at the Elliston - Stanley Funeral Home in Williamstown, KY.  Funeral Services will be officiated by Rev. Shane Embry on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 11am at the funeral home.  He will be "treasured" with military honors at the KY Veterans Cemetery, North, in Williamstown, KY at 12 noon on Friday.
