Charlie J. Melton

August 9, 1930 - December 28, 2017

Charlie J. Melton was born August 9, 1930 in McKee, Kentucky and passed away Dec. 28, 2017 at his residence in Dry Ridge, Kentucky at the age of 87.  He was the son of the late Steven and Angeline Messer Melton.

Charlie was a longtime active member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church in the Zion Station Community.  He was a retired machinist for Goldsmith Metal Lath and a lifelong farmer.

On March 2, 1996 he was united in marriage to Dorris Jean Martin Melton.  In addition to his wife of 22 years, he is survived by 2 sons: Dr. Gary J. (Ruth) Melton of Dry Ridge and Mike (Tina) Melton of Dry Ridge; 3 stepsons: Mark Middleton of Dry Ridge, Michael Middleton of Dry Ridge and Jason Middleton of Frankfort; a stepdaughter: Michele Middleton of Burlington; 11 Grandchildren: Brian (Jacqueline) Melton, Jason (Joy) Melton, Aaron Melton, Casey Vaughn (Jordan), Stephanie Dawson (Ryan), Douglas Middleton, Lauren Kells, Kristen Kells, Nicholas Kells, Macy Middleton and Jackson Middleton.

Charlie was preceded in death by his first wife, Liza Jane Ferguson Melton in 1993 after 40+ years of marriage.  He was also preceded in death by all 10 of his siblings, Ticie Melton, Paul Melton, Franklin Melton, Lawrence "Bobby" Melton, Goldie Bentley, Nannie Ward, Sylvia McDaniel, Lola Belle Fitzgerald, Maude Smallwood, Carrie McDaniel.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Eckler-McDaniel Funeral Home in Dry Ridge.  Visitation will be 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in the Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.
