Mr. Hershel Eugene Fortner of Dry Ridge, KY. passed away Tuesday, August 8 at home at the age of 89. Gene, as he was better known to family and friends, was born October 4, 1927 in Grant County, KY. to the late Russell Fortner and Sylvia Poe Fortner. Gene was a longtime self employed auto mechanic and also owned and operated a wrecker service. Gene was a member of the Mt. Olivet Christian Church and he proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife: Jean Eloise Fortner in 1995 and by a daughter: Kris J. Fortner in 2004.
Gene is survived by a daughter: Cree Fornash of Florence, KY., a granddaughter: Shawndra Lonkard of Williamstown, KY., a great grandson: Zander Jones of Williamstown, KY., a stepgrandson: Whalen Lonkard of Williamstown, KY., 2 sisters: Wanda Dunn of Williamstown, KY. and June Jones of Wapiti, Wyoming.
Funeral services for Hershel Eugene Fortner will be conducted 10:00 am Friday, August 11 in the chapel of the Eckler-McDaniel Funeral Home, Dry Ridge with Rev. Howard Chipman officiating. Visitation will be there on Thursday from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Burial will be in the Morgan Cemetery, Pendleton County.
