James Arthur Rhodes of Cynthiana and formerly of Florence and Dry Ridge, was born in Boone County, Kentucky, near Florence on January 17, 1929 and passed away at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky on May 13, 2017 at the age of 88. He was the son of the late Ralph Edward and Corrinne Callen Rhodes.
Mr. Rhodes is survived by six children: Ralph Rhodes and his wife, Chris, of Zion Station, Carl David Rhodes and his wife, Tonia, of Walton, William Arthur "Bill" Rhodes of Cynthiana, Donald Eugene "Don" Rhodes and his wife, Donna, of Cynthiana, Deborah Ann "Debbie" Stith of Dry Ridge and Shirley Mae Souder of Crittenden; one sister: Iva Lunsford of Dillsboro, Indiana; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Katherine Adams Rhodes and two brothers: George Code and Bob Rhodes.
"Jim" as he was widely known retired from the Boone County School System were he was an Inner School Courier. He formerly worked for the Roper, Hanson and Newman Company and had been an active farmer for many years. He loved rabbit hunting and collecting rocks. He was extremely proud of his service to his country as a seaman with the United States Navy during the Korean War.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, 14635 Walton-Verona Rd., Verona, Kentucky 41092. Visitation will be at the funeral home 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM, Thursday. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Zion Station.
