Betty Jane Thornton

September 8, 1934 - November 11, 2016

Mrs. Betty Jane Thornton of Crittenden, KY. passed away Friday, November 11 at St. Elizabeth Florence at the age of 82.  Mrs. Thornton was born September 8, 1934 in Crittenden, KY. to the late Fred and Mabel Gutman Hopperton.  Mrs. Thornton retired from the Grant County School System where she served as a cook for many years at the Grant County High School.  Mrs. Thornton was a member of the Dry Ridge Baptist Church and participated in the Young at Heart group at the church and always served in the kitchen for any church activity.  She was a member of the Elliston Flat Creek Homemakers and was active with the Grant County Fair Board for many years.  Mrs. Thornton was a cancer survivor and was active each year with the Grant County Relay for Life.  Mrs. Thornton enjoyed being outdoors tending to her garden, canning the vegetables and raising her chickens.  She enjoyed attending craft shows, working puzzles during the winter months and attending marching band competitions.   Mrs. Thornton was also a big fan of Elvis Presley.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thornton was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Thornton on December 19, 2004.

Mrs. Thornton leaves to mourn her passing a daughter: Brenda Dunn and her husband George of Crittenden, KY., a son: Jerry Thornton and his wife Connie of Crittenden, KY., 3 grandchildren: Matthew Allen Thornton, Jason Todd Dunn, Michael Thomas Dunn, 4 great grandchildren: Kenslee Thornton, Marcus Dunn, Haleigh Dunn and Marisa Dunn.

Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Jane Thornton will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday, November 19 in the chapel of the Eckler-McDaniel Funeral Home, Dry Ridge with Rev. Bobby Barnes officiating.  Visitation will be there on Friday, November 18 from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm.  Burial will be in the Crittenden Cemetery.
