Mr.Harry Marshall "Pete" Spegal, of Mt. Zion, passed away Saturday, June 27 at St. Elizabeth Edgewood at the age of 87. Mr. Spegal was born February 12, 1928 in Gardnersville, KY. to the late James Edward and Bertha Bobb Spegal. Mr. Spegal was a retired dairy farmer and a longtime member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Mr. Spegal proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and after returning home from service in Germany he married Eunice Lawrence on October 25, 1952. In addition to his parents, Mr. Spegal was preceded in death by 7 brothers: Herbert Spegal, Sherman Spegal, Chester Spegal, Eugene Spegal, Teddy Spegal, Robert Spegal (buried in Arlington National Cemetery) and Russell Spegal, missing in action during the Korean War and declared dead. Also preceded by 4 sisters: Bertha Mae Conner, Lucy Beighle, Florence Cooley and Margaret Counts. Mr. Spegal leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 62 years: Eunice Lawrence Spegal, 3 daughters: Linda (J.D. Dezarn) Baker of Dry Ridge, KY., Kimberly (Kerry) Curry of Dry Ridge, KY., Karen Spegal of Crescent Springs, KY., 1 brother: Leonard Spegal of Independence, KY., 1 sister: Mary Harp of Ft. Wright, KY., he was blessed with 6 grandchildren: David (Nikki) Baker, Dawn Barrett, Kacie (Terry) Peer, Kristopher (Ashley) Curry, Kelli Curry, Katie (Aaron) Curry and he has 8 great grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Harry Marshall "Pete" Spegal will be conducted 12:00 noon Thursday, July 2 at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Marksberry officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 1 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm in the chapel of the Eckler-McDaniel Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. There will be additional visitation on Thursday at the church from 11:00 am until the funeral hour. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Memorial contributions if desired may be directed to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
