James Frederick Marquardt, of Dry Ridge, KY. passed away at his home on Sunday, August 1 at the age of 72. Mr. Marquardt was born November 3, 1937 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to the late Raymond O. Marquardt and Marion Eleanore Smith Marquardt. Mr. Marquardt was a retired math and physics professor with emeritus status with the University of Cincinnati having taught from 1965 - 1995. He served his country as a 1st Lt. in the US Army and was stationed in Korea. Mr. Marquardt was a member of the Dry Ridge Christian Church. He was a former member of the Grant County Board of Education and a past president of the Dry Ridge PTA. He was a past president of the former Dry Ridge Kiwanis Club and a member of the Louisville American Legion. Mr. Marquardt was co-author of physics lab manuals used for the University of Cincinnati as well as other universities. He enjoyed farming, woodworking and was a devoted family man. Mr. Marquardt is survived by his wife of 48 years: Sue M. Marquardt. He has 1 daughter: Leslie M. Merryman and her husband John H. of Folsom, KY. and 2 sons: Rick Marquardt and his wife Harue of Edgewood, KY. and Todd Marquardt of Richmond, KY. He has 2 sisters: Judy Ness of Erskine, MN. and Janice Greene and her husband Orrin of Oberon, ND. He has 1 brother: John Marquardt and his wife Conny of Fargo, ND. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren: Jeremy Marquardt of Edgewood, KY., John Matthew Merryman and Sara Beth Merryman, both of Folsom, KY. He has a loving niece: Michelle Moody of Lexington, KY. Funeral services for Mr. Marquardt will be conducted at 10:30 am Friday at the Dry Ridge Christian Church with Rev. Jerry Summers and Rev. Wayne Barnett officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-8 pm in the chapel of the Eckler-McDaniel Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown, KY.
