Mr. Alva Gene Mullins passed away at Grant Center in Williamstown, KY on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at the age of 94. He was the husband of the late Shirley Mullins.
Gene was born on July 4, 1932 in Campton, KY to the late Hugh Benton Mullins and Jenny Lee Adams Mullins. He graduated from Wolfe Co. High School in 1950 where he served as the class president. Gene was an advertiser for the Middletown Journal for over 40 years. He was a KY Colonel and a believer of the Nazarene faith. On May 13, 1952 he joined the U.S. Navy. He served over 3 years on the USS Mender as a Radio Man during the Korean War. Gene cherished his family and spent most of his life caring and loving his wife Shirley. He valued his roots and often times would travel to Campton to visit his homestead and hike the Red River Gorge in the Daniel Boone National Forest. In his free time he like to collect coins.
Gene is survived by one daughter, Carrie Leland, two step daughters, Debra (Tom) Gantzer, Diane (Geoff) Reed, two step-sons, Scott (Sandy) Pierce, Charles (Connie) Pierce, thirteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services with military honors will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at 11am at the KY Veteran's Cemetery North in Williamstown, KY. Pastor Mark Messmore of the Mt. Olivet Church will be officiating services.
