Charlene Thomas, 75, entered into her heavenly rest on Friday April 24, 2026 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center – Florence, KY. Born on April 26, 1950 in Shelbyville, KY, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas, Jr. and Betty Lou Clifton Romans.
Twenty-two years ago, Charlene was united in marriage to Monty Steven Thomas; he preceded her in death on October 20, 2025. She was the Construction Coordinator for the Bowlin Group for many years. She had a passion for reading and studying history; she loved working in her flower garden; she passionately commented that she “loved beating the hell out of weeds”. Her keen sense of humor, coupled with her jokester spirit, caused her to be endeared by everyone that knew her. Listening to music while she was mowing on her tractor brought her much satisfaction, but nothing was more satisfying than spending time with family, particularly her grandchildren, who lovingly called her ”Meemaw”. She was of the Christian faith and a member of the Eastern Star – Ghent 441 Lodge.
She leaves to mourn her passing but celebrate her life, two sons: Dwight Thomas “Toby” Rider of Florence, KY, Matthew Romans (Nicky) Rider of Port St. Lucie, FL; one daughter: Pamela Kaye “Missie” (Keith) Sciarra of Parrish, FL; one sister: Rita Kaye (Charlie) Henry of Cordova, KY; along with 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Steve Thomas, she was preceded in death by a sister, Teresa Lou Mulberry.
Because of the many health issues Charlene experienced over the years, coupled with her selfless desire to advance medical education and research, she made the decision to donate her body to science. Her legacy will be carried on by the many stories and reflections of her beautiful life.
