Dexter Smith

Dexter Smith , 79, of Verona, KY, died Wednesday September 15, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center – Florence.  Born August 10, 1942 in Evarts, KY, he was the son of the late Shelby and Effie Flannery Smith.

On October 20, 1964 Dexter was married to the former Betty Jean Cook; she survives.  He formerly worked with Mills Fencing; at the time of his retirement he was working at Security Fence. He enjoyed fishing, riding ATV’s and particularly after retiring, he enjoyed sitting under a shade tree and taking it easy, enjoying the pleasures of retirement.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, Betty, include two sons: Gary Smith of Verona. Eddie (Rita) Smith of Verona; one daughter: Julliann Smith of Elsmere; two brothers: Sylvester Smith of Harlan and E.G. Smith of Evarts.

Four grandchildren also survive: Gary Smith, Jr., Amber Smith, Edward Smith, and Amanda Smith, along with three great-grandchildren: Autumn Love, Winter Love and Summer Love.  He was preceded in death by one brother: Wilson Smith and one sister: Bessie Smith.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
