Dolores Martin Steger, 40 days shy of her 100th birthday, of Williamstown, KY, entered into the presence of her Heavenly Father on Friday February 20, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, kindness and gentle strength. A devoted follower of Christ, she lived her life as a testimony of her belief, touching the hearts of many with her gentle smile and kind, encouraging words.
Born on April 1, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Corrine Gordon Martin. Dolores’ father, Raymond, died when she was a young girl. Corrine, her mother, married Clifford Martin; he became the man the children came to love as their “Dad”.
In the past 100 years, Dolores’ life was defined by rapid technological leaps, global conflicts and major shifts in the economy. She was just a young teenager when the deadliest conflict in history, World War II, broke out; this lead to the Holocaust and the first use of atomic weapons. Many medical milestones and the introduction of the World Wide Web are part of the many changes she experienced. Through all the good times, through all the challenging times, Dolores, always put her faith and trust in the Lord, whom she loved and faithfully served.
Her life was characterized by her deep love for the church, where she taught Sunday School for many years and was actively involved in the life and ministries of the church. She and her late husband, Victor, were charter members of Sherman Church of Christ. She was a 1944 graduate of Mason High School in Grant County.
On September 3, 1948, she was united in marriage to Otha “Victor” Steger; a union that lasted 50 years; he preceded her in death on November 15, 1998. Victor served in the Philippines in the U.S. Navy during W. W. II. He was able to get one of his silk parachutes sent to his soon-to-be-wife, Dolores. She used that material to make her own wedding dress – that dress is still in her possession. Being very supportive of her husband, she worked hand in hand with him on their dairy farm and the auctioneering business they owned together.
She leaves to carry on her legacy, a beautiful family, consisting of nieces: Lynne (Tom) Martin Lubrecht, Melanie (Greg) Martin Wallace, Jayne (David) Martin Brown, Angie (Jim) Martin Digaetano, Cindy (Steve) Wright, Patti (Larry) Green, Suzie (Stuart) Bowling, Robin Lootens; nephews: Jerry (Debbie) Martin, Barry Martin, Jimmy Martin, Kelly Wilson, Buford Doane and a sister-in-law, Patsy Wilson, along with many great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Clayton Martin, Ernest Martin; one sister, Maxine Martin Ballance and a nephew, Clifford Wayne Martin.
Family and friends may gather at Stanley Funeral Homes (Williamstown) on Wednesday February 25, 2026 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning at 11:00 with Bro. Tommy Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Williamstown Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Victor.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dolores’ memory to: Sherman Church of Christ 1055 Sherman Mt. Zion Road Dry Ridge, KY 41035
