Donald Dean "Donnie" Barnes, a beloved husband, father, and respected retired foreman for Norfolk Southern Railroad, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026, in Williamstown, Kentucky. Born on August 23, 1944, in Stanton, Kentucky, Donnie lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, and deep connection to the land and community he cherished.
Throughout his career with Norfolk Southern Railroad, Donnie was known for his strong work ethic and leadership, qualities that extended beyond his professional life into his personal passions and family relationships. After retiring, he continued to demonstrate his love for the outdoors. Donnie found joy in working on the farm in his tobacco fields and vegetable gardens with patient care and expertise. Donnie's presence was a pillar of strength and warmth to those who knew him. He was deeply loved by his wife, Anna Darlene Purnell Barnes, who stood by his side for 61 years. Together, they built a family rooted in love and mutual respect. Donnie was a devoted father to his children: Teresa Lynn James (Eddie), Cynthia Dawn Sears (James), Pamela Nicole Collins (Michael), and Greggory Allen Barnes. He is also survived by his brother, Brent Barnes,.
