E. Emerson Rider was born December 22, 1938 in Williamstown, Kentucky and passed away at his residence in Williamstown, Kentucky on August 31, 2023. He was the son of the late Charles Leonard and Jean Brooks Rider.
Emerson retired in 1996 from the USDA as Executive Director for the ASCS (now Farm Service Agency) office in Williamstown, KY. He was also a life long farmer, farming tobacco, hay and cattle. He was the first to bring Charolais Cattle to Grant County at the age of 19. He bought his first cow at the age of 11 and sold his last at 82. Emerson was a member of the Grant County Cattleman's Club and the Grant County Chamber of Commerce.
He was an avid UK fan. He loved being with his family and enjoyed traveling with them. One of his favorite trips was the houseboat trip with his fellow members from The Mount. He leaves a legacy of being a kind and giving man with a sharing heart.
Emerson is survived by three children: Trina Rider of Independence, Tracey Rider of Williamstown, and Dwayne Rider of Williamstown; one sister, Reva Myers of Cordova; one brother Charles Leonard Rider, Jr of Melbourne, FL; three grandchildren: Lindsey Penick Magee (Wesley), Ashley Jolly Vater (Chaz), and Trenton Robinson and six great grandchildren with two on the way.
Emerson was preceded in death by two brothers: Edward "Eddie" Ray Rider and Victor Dwight “Ike” Rider.
An evening visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at The Mount, 400 Eibeck Lane, Williamstown, KY. On Friday, September 8, visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with the Funeral Services at 1:00 PM at the church. Burial will follow at the Robinson Cemetery, Berry, KY.
