On Monday, July 21, 2025, Frances Elaine Livingood Doane (Poogie) went home to be with the Lord. Frances joyfully entered the presence of Jesus singing “Amazing Grace” at 8:20 pm. She leaves behind on this Earth 2 children: Anthony Wayne (Gail) and Jennifer Elaine (Greg); 5 grandchildren: Jamie (Daniel), Jill (Ben), Colton (Kaitlyn), Jordan, Samantha and 12 great-grandchildren. Poogie is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Norman and her brothers: Richard Gene Livingood, Frederick Allen Livingood, and Dennis Michael Livingood and a son, Norman Dirille Jr. Frances is survived by her brother James Clarence (Jim) Livingood and Carol Faye Livingood.
Frances was lovingly cared for by the staff at Jewel Knight’s home-care facility.
Poogie was born to J.C. and Dorothy Livingood in Carlisle, KY on December 24, 1936. A tenant farmer’s daughter, Poogie grew up in a hard-working home where she helped take care of the home and raise her younger siblings. Frances made a profession of faith at Marcus/Crooked Creek Baptist Church. While at Marcus/Crooked Creek, Frances met the “love of her life” Norman Doane - she won him over with peanut butter cookies! Poogie was a member of the first graduating class of Grant County High School in 1955. She and Norman were married on September 24th of that same year, after Norman returned from deployment with the United States Army.
Frances and Norman’s journey together took them to Crittenden Baptist church where they both actively served. Poogie worked with GA’s, Acteens, and Women’s Missionary Union. Frances was a gifted soprano who unabashedly praised the Lord from her heart. Heaven’s choirs singing “Amazing Grace” never sounded sweeter than when Poogie entered those pearly gates. Known as “snake-legs” by her brothers, she was a fireball pitcher and the heart of the church league team for many years. Poogie’s service through the church planted an abundance of spiritual seeds, especially in the young women she mentored. Frances read her bible regularly and her faithfulness to God’s word empowered her to be a mighty prayer warrior. A normal conversation with Frances Doane always consisted of “Hi, what’s your name…where do you go to church?”
Frances expanded her ministry, serving as a bus driver for Grant County Schools for about 30 years. As a bus driver, she demanded decency, order and respect. You could count on Ms. Doane to run a “tight ship” on her school bus. Throughout her working career, Frances held jobs at Western Southern Life Insurance Company and Goodyear Tire Company. She also worked as a receptionist at Dr. Waller’s office and administrative assistant for Livingood Trucking.
We will celebrate Poogie’s life and heavenly homecoming on Saturday July 26, 2025 at the Crittenden Baptist Church in Crittenden, KY. Visitation begins at 10:00am, with celebration service following at 1:00pm. Graveside service takes place immediately following at the cemetery in Crittenden.
Memorials are suggested to Crittenden Baptist Church Missions Outreach, 215 Russell Dr., Crittenden, KY 41030.
