Mr. Howard Wayne Johns, a Union resident, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center at the age of 82. He was the husband of Merrily Johns.
Mr. Johns, most commonly known as "Howard Wayne", was born on December 30, 1940 in Williamstown, KY to the late Homer Johns and Elsie M. Richardson. He graduated from Williamstown High School and then was drafted into the U.S. Army on April 3, 1962. He worked as a truck driver for McClean Trucking for 20 years and then as the service manager for Honda of Florence for 23 years. Howard Wayne loved camping, vacationing at the beach, watching western movies, was a gun collector, motorcycle mechanic and animal lover. He was a former mason of the Dry Ridge Masonic Lodge, and he was a volunteer of the Ryle High School Cannon Squad.
Howard Wayne is survived by his wife, Merrily Jump Johns, two sons, Terry Wayne Johns, Scott Allen (Ashley) Johns, two daughters, Tonya Sue Johns, Jamie Marie (Scott) Hampton, one sister, Diana Young, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and favorite cat CiCi. Howard Wayne is preceded in death by one daughter, Tina Johns, brother in law Bobby Young and dogs, Baby, Sebastian and Dexter.
Visitation will be Friday, February 3, 2023 from 10am-12noon. Funeral will be at 12 noon at the Eckler-McDaniel Funeral Home in Dry Ridge, KY. A military graveside service with full military honors will be Friday at 1pm at the KY Veteran's Cemetery North in Williamstown, KY. Rev. Milkweed Wotier will be officiating the services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home or family. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Union Fire Department for the relentless help, care and attention given to their family over the past few months.
