Mr. Hugh McQueary, a Covington resident, passed away at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood, KY on Monday, November 10, 2025 at the age of 90. He was the widower of the late Octavia Mae Bowen McQueary.
On November 6, 1935, Hugh was born in Christine, KY to the late Elvin and Lena Powell McQueary. Later in life he moved to Cincinnati, OH where he met and married the love of his life, Octavia Bowen. Through this union was born one daughter, whom survives, Linda (Mike) Peters. In addition to Linda, Hugh is survived by two granddaughters, Amber (Matt) Harris, Jessica (Rob) DiPaola, four great grandchildren, Kyle (Erika) Harris, Paige (Nick) Lindley, Riley DiPaola, Kennedy Ferguson, one great-great grandson Lincoln Lindley, and three brothers, Billy Jean (Diane) McQueary, James McQueary and Fred (Melissa) McQueary. Hugh was preceded in death by four brothers, Ed, Albert, Tommy and Jerry McQueary and two sisters, Hazel Russell and Alice McQueary.
Hugh was a deacon and former member of the choir at the Redemption Church Ashland Ave of Covington, KY. In previous years, he loved to play baseball, shoot pool, bowl, go fishing and attend horse races. In his pastime he loved singing, playing card games and was often found mowing and manicuring his lawn. His family describes him as a loving father and grandfather who always kept his family close to him. He loved to take his grandchildren to Florida for vacations and was often considered to be a funny, comical man who always made his family laugh and smile.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at the Redemption Church Ashland Ave, 2735 Ashland Ave, Latonia, KY 41015 with service day and times to be announced soon. Pastor Ben Brown will be officiating services. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Fund.
