James Edward Merida, Sr.

James Edward Merida , Sr., 78, a Verona resident, passed away Friday July 17, 2020 at his residence. Born November 21, 1941 in Campton, KY; he was the son of the late Kash and Gladys Marie York Merida.

On April 23, 1966, he was united in marriage to the former Gloria Jean Thrasher; she survives. Before retirement, he was employed as a bricklayer for Randal Rhodes Construction. He loved fishing and hunting, particularly, coon hunting. He was a member of Scenic View Church of Christ.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 54 years, Gloria Jean Merida; three sons: James Edward (Natalie) Merida, Jr. of Verona, KY, Steven Wayne Merida of Verona, KY, Mike (Lisa) Merida of Warsaw, KY; one brother: Robert Gene Merida of Verona, KY and Ester Merida of Crittenden, KY. Three grandchildren also survive: Ethan Merida, Kaycee Merida and Brittany Merida. He was preceded in death by a sister: Ebby Irene Merida and two brothers: Lester Merida and Loyd Merida.

Funeral services will be Wednesday July 22, 2020 at 1:00 at Hamilton – Stanley Funeral Home in Verona with Revs. Jerry Webster and Carl Hutchinson officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.  Burial will follow in Beaver Lick Christian Church Cemetery.
