James Centers Perkins, Jr. of Orlando, Florida

February 24, 1943 - April 1, 2023

James Centers Perkins, Jr. of Orlando, FL and previously of Florence, KY passed away at the VA Medical Center in Orlando, FL on April 1, 2023 at the age of 80 years. On February 24, 1943 he was born in Lexington, KY to the late James C Perkins, Sr. and Ida Sneed Perkins.

James was a machinist for American Tool and went on to work for General Electric for over 30 years where he worked on the F-14 Tomcat Project. He was a volunteer Firefighter for Wiliamstown Fire Department for 12 years, a United States Army Veteran with 1 st Division, 1 st Howitzer Battalion, 7 th Artillery. He enjoyed raising money for Toys for Tots, going on Charity motorcycle rides, being outside, grilling out, traveling, and listening to Reds baseball on AM radio.

He is survived by his son, James R. Perkins of Cincinnati, OH, his daughter, Jennifer L. Kemper of Dry Ridge, KY, a sister Jane Crider of Florence, KY, 2 grandsons; Johnathan Perkins of Lynchburg, VA, Cole Kemper of Spartanburg, SC, 4 granddaughters; Sydney Kemper of Dry Ridge, KY, Delaney Kemper of Edgewood, KY,  Audrey and Brooklyn Perkins of Williamstown, KY along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

James was preceded in death by his siblings, James W. Perkins, Franklin D. Perkins, Robert L. Perkins, Tommy Perkins, Hazel Cooper, Mildred “Millie” Bustle, Shirley Clemons, Alverta “Bertie” Ingram, and Jeanette Hicks.

Graveside Services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at KY Veteran’s Cemetery, North in Williamstown, KY with the Rev. Howard Chipman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Fisher House Foundation or the Williamstown Fire Department.

Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
