Born November 17, 1936, Kenneth Chandler was the beloved son of the late Howard and Katherine Keith Chandler. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 63 years, Mary Margaret “Pete” Richardson Chandler, his lifelong companion and friend. Kenneth’s heart and hands were always connected to the land. He planted his first tobacco crop at the age of 12, given a tenant’s share by his grandfather, and from that moment, farming became more than a livelihood—it was his calling. He especially cherished working with cattle, particularly red Limousins, dedicating years to developing a purebred herd with care and pride. A graduate of Owen County High School, Kenneth began his working life as a lineman with the Owen Electric Co-Op. Though he would never have claimed the title, to families on remote farms, he was nothing short of a hero—braving storms, blizzards, and floods to keep electricity flowing to those who needed it most. Music was another of Kenneth’s great loves. Blessed with a strong, resonant singing voice, he sang throughout his life and, at age 40, took up the fiddle with passion and dedication. He became a fixture in the local music community, playing with the Sweet Owen Stringers, competing in fiddling contests, and joining countless backyard jam sessions. Over time, he amassed a remarkable collection of fiddles, mandolins, and guitars, and discovered a gift for writing songs and poems—often crafted to honor the friends and moments that shaped his life. In later years, he formed a band with Mt. Zion Baptist Church friends, affectionately called “KC and the Believers,” delighting in music shared both in the church and in his garage. Kenneth was also a storyteller, a keeper of family history, and a man whose quick grin and gentle spirit endeared him to all who knew him. His legacy is one of hard work, music, friendship, faith, and love—a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed by all.
Leaving to carry on his legacy of love and commitment is his daughter, Elizabeth (Dan) Chandler Mahoney of Carrollton, KY; his sister, Sherry (Tommy) Williams of Paris, KY; a brother-n-law, Charlie (Rita) Richardson of Owenton, KY; a sister-n-law, Gloria Chandler of Owenton, KY along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. In addition to his wife, Mary Margaret "Pete" Chandler, he was preceded in death by a brother, Morgan Chandler and a sister, Betty (Eddie) Keith.
