Laura Katherine Sowder

Laura Katherine Sowder passed into the arms of our Lord on March 11, 2026, at Villaspring Nursing Home in Erlander, KY. She was born to Mary Frances (Vallandingham) and Cannon Sowder on January 5th, 1953, in Williamstown, KY. 

She graduated from Grant County High School and Morehead State University. She retired from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). She was known as Kathy to her Family, known as L.K. to her work associates and sometimes known by her first name, Laura.Kathy was baptized into the Faith at the Grassy Run Baptist Church and continued to be faithful to the Lord. She was devoted to her many pets, especially her cats and dogs. She enjoyed preparing special dishes for holidays and work events. 

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Cannon and Frances Sowder. She is survived by her two brothers: Joseph/Joe and wife Pamela Sowder and Gerald/Jerry Sowder. Her nieces and nephews are Jay (Lisa) Sowder, Teasha (Brett) Seitz, Charity (Kevin) Moeller, and Elizabeth (Dewayne) Tatum. Others include a number of cousins, great neices and nephews and friends. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grant County Animal Shelter 218 Barnes Road, Williamstown, KY 41097. Services are on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, provided by Stanley Funeral Homes, 500 N. Main St., Williamstown, KY 41097. Phone 859 824-3374. Visitation is at 11 am, Funeral at 12 pm with graveside service following in Hill Crest Cemetery.
