Leland Earl Pence, 84, of Williamstown, KY, a proud Vietnam Veteran transitioned from this life on Friday May 2, 2025 at his residence after an extended illness. Born on August 29, 1940 in Williamstown, he was the son of the late Earl and Rosella Mae (Ashcraft) Pence.
On May 5, 1994, he was united in marriage to the former Linda Due; whom he loved with all his heart; she survives. He transported mail for the United States Postal Service for 12 years; he previously worked for Grant County Foods. In 1963 he proudly and honorably served his country by entering the United States Air Force in the Vietnam War; he earned the rank of Senior Airman (ALC E-4). He was a member of Grassy Run Baptist Church.
Leland was a genuine, kind individual who showed true loyalty and unconditional love to his family, friends, neighbors…everyone. His warm and endearing personality touched and enriched the lives of everyone. Leland’s true character, loyalty and integrity caused him to be loved and respected by so many. One would be hard pressed to say anything negative about Leland. All his neighbors grew to love and respect him; neighbor Joe, commented, “He was a man of great integrity; his word was better than any legal contract.”
If you knew him, you were blessed. If you did not know him, you missed out on being enriched by a genuinely true, hardworking and faithful individual who touched the lives of countless people through his 84 years. He will long be remembered as a good friend, honest neighbor, jack-of-all-trades, his love for deer hunting, tinkering in the garage, photography, raising goats and being a competitive corn-hole player… but nothing was more special to him than his family; he loved them more than anything…..and everyone knew how much they meant to him.
Those left to caring on his legacy include his wife of almost 32 years, Linda Pence; one son: Scott (Christy) Pence of Williamstown; two daughters: Crissy Marksberry of Williamstown, Amy Vollmer of Walton; seven grandchildren: Charlotte (John) Denke, DeAsia (Jordan) Saylor, Gabrielle Adams, Skylar Pence, Seth Bowling, Chloe Marksberry and Makya Herald, along with six great-grandchildren: Kensley, Ari’yanna, Delta, J.J., Maggie and Lydia and a great-grandbaby “on the way”. Preceding him in death is a daughter: Stacey Herald; two brothers: Barry Dwayne Pence, Wayne Pence; two sisters: Wanda Covey, Shirley Lachance and two grandchildren: Malachi Herald and Kateri Herald.
