Mary “Jean” Daugherty, 87, of Covington, KY, peacefully entered her eternal home, surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at Rosedale Green Nursing Home – Covington. Born on December 14, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Elsie (Benz) Sauer.
A dedicated and faithful servant of the Lord, Jean was a parishioner at St. Barbara Roman Catholic Church. On January 16, 1960, she was united in marriage to Lyle Dean Daugherty; he preceded her in death on May 16, 2018. Because of her sweet, gentle personality, she was endeared by everyone who knew her. She will long be remembered for watching every episode of “Friends”, loving Bingo, manicures, U.K. Basketball, Gold Star Chili, White Castles and all kinds of sweets, i.e., Peeps, chocolate nonpareils, cherry malts and jelly donuts but undoubtedly, her greatest fulfillment in life came from the wonderful memories developed over the years with her beautiful and loving family.
Her legacy will continue through the lives of her three daughters: Cindy (Scott) Plumley of Independence, KY, Dr. Christy (Dr. Larry) Johnson of Owenton, KY, Stacey (Ed) Carolan of Union, KY; two sons: Tom Daugherty of Dry Ridge, KY, Joe (Michelle) Daugherty of Sparta, KY, along with 15 grandchildren: Brandon (Julie) Plumley, Lauren (Justin) Heeger, Elizabeth Edwards, Matt (Christina) Edwards, Noah Reilly, Kaitlin (Jacob) Sword, Christina (Jared) Perkins, Katherine (Zach Hall) Johnson, Evan Daugherty, Avri Daugherty, Trevor Daugherty, Kristin (Chad) Trutschel, Zachary (Sarah) Kelly, Dean Carolan, Marley Carolan and 16 great-grandchildren: Jerin, Jaycee, Brynn, Jayden, Jordan, Jessa, Jaxon, Mason, Liam, Ellie, Sydney, Charlie, Camden, Joey, Eli, Baby Kelly and sister-n-laws: Anji Hurt of Alexandria and Barb Daugherty of Demossville. In addition to her husband, Lyle Daugherty, she was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Sauer; two sisters: Joanne Damon, Betty Briedis; and a brother-n-law, Terry Daugherty.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 31, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Barbara Catholic Church. Friends and family may gather at the church at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Mother of God Cemetery in Latonia, where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Lyle.
