Reda Carol Lockwood, a beloved figure and cherished matriarch, gracefully departed from this world on November 22, 2025, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Grant County at the age of 86. Born on March 25, 1939, in the quaint town of Milton, West Virginia, Reda was a vibrant spirit whose legacy will forever echo in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her.
A woman of many talents and pursuits, Reda’s career began with her dedicated service as a Meter Maid for the City of Williamstown, where she diligently upheld the virtues of her community. Her commitment to public safety reached new heights when she became the first 911 operator for Grant County, a role that signified not merely a job but a profound dedication to the well-being of her neighbors.
Reda was a proud graduate of her hometown schools, shaped by the supportive embrace of the Milton Methodist Church, where she once held membership. With a personality that radiated warmth and joy, she was a fun-loving woman whose greatest joy came from the time spent with her grandchildren. They were the light of her life, and her legacy of love will undoubtedly be carried forth by the generations she nurtured.
In the flower garden of life, Reda thrived with a remarkable green thumb. A former member of the Milton Garden Club, she cultivated not only flowers but also a spirit of community and camaraderie among those who shared her passion. Her deep appreciation for the natural beauty of her surroundings extended to her role as a covered bridge historian, a pursuit that connected her to the rich history of her beloved town of Milton.
Throughout her life, Reda was an unwavering supporter of her children. She actively engaged in their school activities, serving as a vital member of the band boosters and managing the concession stands with diligent care. Her spirit of involvement extended beyond her family, as she brought people together through her warm hospitality and exquisite culinary talents. Known for her delicious Clark-bar candy, her kitchen was a sanctuary filled with laughter and the tantalizing aromas of her cooking, especially during the festive holiday seasons when she transformed her home with joy and decorations.
A fervent enthusiast of sports, she watched NASCAR with passion, her heart forever loyal to Kyle Busch, and cheered on the Cincinnati Bengals with fervor. Indeed, her zest for life was evident in every endeavor she undertook, as she found joy in both the grand celebrations and the quiet moments of everyday living.
She leaves behind a beloved family who will carry her memory deep within their hearts. Reda is survived by her daughter, Sheri (Randy) Breeden, and her son, Michael K. (Vickie) Lockwood, both of whom will honor her legacy with the same love and joy she exemplified throughout her life. Also to carry on her legacy are her two granddaughters, Jenka (Kyle) Conrad, Jenna (Chris) Duncan and five great grandchildren. She had a special friend, Laura Bach, that stood by her side, sharing in the moments that made her journey so meaningful.
Reda now reunites with her husband, George Kennedy Lockwood; her son, Jeffrey Jacob Lockwood; her very special granddaughter, Kristen Lee Carter; and her dear brothers, Richard, James, and Ronnie Wheeler. She is also preceded in death by her loving parents, Audrey Collins Wheeler and Richard Leo Wheeler.
As we bid farewell to Reda Carol Lockwood, let us remember her not only for the roles she played in her professional life or her community but, most importantly, for her boundless love, her nurturing spirit, and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind. May her memory continue to inspire us to cultivate love in every garden of our lives.
