Robert Gene Tackett

Robert Gene Tackett, a Walton resident, passed away peacefully at his home after a long illness, on November 28, 2025 at the age of 86. He was the husband of Patricia Tackett. 

Robert was born on July 16, 1939 in Livingston, KY to the late Shelby and Ida Cromer Tackett.  In later years, Robert moved to Verona, KY where he instilled a life long passion for the outdoors.  He loved to coonhunt, fish, and on numerous nights was found doing both.  He was a retired truck driver for Pennsylvania Truck Lines.  He later continued to drive a dump truck for his nephew Jimmy Overbay and then Boone Ready Mix. After his career in trucking, he found great joy in building pulling garden tractors and won numerous trophies while pulling tractors.  He often referred to his tractors as his "cast iron grandchildren".  Regardless of his hobby, he was very competitive and would give 100% to it.  He loved to share his experience and knowledge with anyone who would offer an ear.  He was often found telling jokes and loved to make people laugh. Robert had a kind and loving heart and in his younger years would allow his daughter Lois to style and color his hair while she was in college to be a beautician.  Lois tells a story of her dad allowing her to dye his hair bright orange while he laughed and loved his daughter during the process.

Robert was the last of ten siblings.  He is survived by his wife Patricia Ann Vest Tackett, one daughter, Lois (Mark) Tackett Lykins, two step daughters Kay Stevens-Walterman (Richard), Michele (Terry) Roberts, two steps sons, William "Bill" Stevens, Bruce (Symino) Stephens, nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  Robert was preceded in death by two daughters, Deborah "Debbie" Jean (Dewey) Mulford, Betty Lynn Tackett, three brothers, Carl (Evelyn) Tackett, Orville (Alice) Tackett, Lloyd Ray (Kay) Tackett and six sisters, Mae (Walter) Doan, Alma (Albert) Beach, Mary (Lawrence) Overbay, Edna (Eugene) Hiles, Christine Tackett, Kathleen (Richard) Courtney.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 3, 2025 from 11am-1pm at the Hamilton - Stanley Funeral Home in Verona, KY.  Funeral services will be at 1pm.  Burial will follow at the New Bethel Cemetery in Verona, KY.  Memorials are suggested to the family, c/o Stanley Funeral Homes.
