Roy Irvin Strong, Sr.

Roy Irvin Strong, Sr., 81, Crittenden, KY, entered his eternal home on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at his residence. Born on October 20, 1944 in Newport, KY, he was the son of the late Miles Newton and Anna Elizabeth Mann Strong.

On June 4, 1965, Roy married the former Laura Inez Smith, who survives. He was a 1963 graduate of Walton-Verona High School. After 47 ½ years, Roy retired from G. R. Trumble Concrete, Inc. as a concrete contractor; many of those years were spent as a Supervisor. He was an avid UK basketball fan and gardener; he loved flowers and raised many flowers over the years.  From an early age, Roy was a hard worker, helping milk cows before going to school. He helped neighbors with any jobs that needed to be done.  As a dedicated member of Crittenden Baptist Church, he was actively involved; he served as a Trustee, worked with the AWANA program and served on the committee to build the multi-purpose room and new front foyer. He also sang in the choir and ran the church ballpark for 14 years; he also coached several teams. He will be missed by his beloved dog, Susie; His greatest fulfillment came from spending time with family and friends.

Roy leaves to carry on his legacy his wife of 61 years, Laura Strong; three sons: Roy Irvin (Mary) Strong, Jr. of Florence, KY, Gary Allen (Laysha) Strong of Hebron, KY, Randy Dale Strong of Dry Ridge, KY; two brothers: Terry (Jo) Strong of Shelbyville, KY, Bobby (Micki) Strong of Alexandria, KY; three sisters: Phyllis (late Lou) Hamilton of Florida, Janet McMillan Rodgers of Williamstown, KY and Beverly (late Roy) Clifton of Boise, ID. 'Papaw" played a huge role in the lives of his eight grandchildren: Josh (Brittany), Kayla (Trent), Jordon, Brandon (Jessy), Kara (Brady), Sierra (Daniel), Haley and Dakota, along with 11 great-grandchildren: Jaxon, Marlee, Coby, Sonora, Saint, Ocean, Bryn, Crue, Mara, Ryker and Ellion. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an older brother, William Strong. 

Visitation will be Monday, September 28, 2026 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Crittenden Baptist Church. Visitation will resume Tuesday morning  September 29th at 11:00 and go until the time of the funeral at 1:00 pm. with Bro. Tommy Alford officiating. Burial will follow in the New Bethel Cemetery in Verona.
