Sara L. Kitner (Sally), 82, of Dry Ridge, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord Sunday, October 18th at her home. She was born November 26, 1943, in Middleboro, Massachusetts to John and Leah (Kinsman) Rockwell.
Sally is survived by her husband, Amos Kitner, whom she married in October 1968. Also surviving are four children, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Pam Kitner of Dry Ridge, KY (her son, Justin), David (Jean) Kitner of Big Freedom, PA, Susan Kitner (her daughters, Brooke, Amber and Kara) and Sipho Kitner (his son, Neh’Mhari) of Braintree, MA. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Dwight Rockwell and great-grandson, Luke Kitner.
Sally was a 1965 graduate of Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, IL, and in 1968 earned a Bachelor of Arts from Barrington College in RI. As Sally grew in her faith, family and serving God were central in her life. Her Bible training and elementary teaching degree equipped her to serve 25 years on the mission field in Southern Africa with TWR (Trans World Radio). In the years after returning from Africa, Sally remained consistent in her commitment to draw attention to Jesus Christ in her family, community and church, most recently Grace Fellowship Church in Florence, KY. Throughout the years of declining capacity due to Alzheimer’s, reading the Bible, sharing her faith, and praying for family, neighbors and friends filled her days.
Cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held October 24, 2026 at 11 am at the Stanley-Elliston Funeral Home, Williamstown KY. Her remains will be interred at the Kentucky North Veterans Cemetery, Williamstown, KY in a private ceremony. Memorial contributions may be given to TWR (Trans World Radio), 300 Gregson Drive, Cary, NC 27511.
