Dry Ridge

Verna "Sunny" Welch Holt, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on June 4, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, KY. Born on December 8, 1937, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Sunny graced the lives of those around her with a spirit of joy and love. Her education was marked by her graduation from Grant County High School, after which she embarked on a fulfilling career in banking, dedicating over 20 years to PNC Bank, previously known as Central Trust Bank.

Sunny’s life was characterized by a remarkable affection for her family and an unwavering commitment to her loved ones. She was a fun-loving mother who cherished her three sons, David "Joey" (Angie) Holt, Tom A. Holt, and Ron W. Holt, and her daughter, Shirley Ann Holt. Her heart swelled with pride as she surrounded herself with her eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to deepen those precious bonds. Her laughter echoed through the family's gatherings, especially during joyous Christmas holidays and cherished family reunions.

In addition to her family, Sunny’s passions were many. She found immense joy in RV camping, traveling across the nation with her beloved son Tom. She held a deep affection for her flower and vegetable garden, pouring love and dedication into canning her harvest. Sunny delighted in vacations spent in the mountains and at the beach, where the beauty of nature matched her vibrant spirit. In her quiet moments, she found joy in watching reruns of "Gunsmoke" and embraced her love for the farm life, which brought her peace and contentment. Sometimes, when the moment called for a little thrill, she would enjoy visiting the casino, always ready to share stories and laugh with those around her.

Sunny's legacy is one steeped in love, warmth, and the values of family. She is survived by her three sons, daughter, and an extended family including her brothers Goble "Ebbie" (Ruth) Perkins and Delbert (Brenda) Perkins, sisters Judy (Mark) Shepperd, Sandy (Warren) Smith, Joyce Rabe, and Linda Onkst, along with sisters-in-law Lorine Woodall and Nina Jean Jones and many nieces and nephews. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and their memories together will continue to resonate through the years.

She now rests alongside her late husband, Elmer "Bus" Holt, mother, Martha Perkins, father Lonnie Welch, step-father Goble Perkins and her sister, Jean Bergfeld. While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the vibrant life she led, the memories she created, and the love she generously shared.

Family and friends will gather for visitation on June 9, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM, at the Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home in Williamstown, KY.
