Viva Dee Davis, 93, transitioned from her earthly existence to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, November 1, 2026 at Boonespring Nursing and Rehab in Union. Born on May 8, 1933, in Stanton, KY, she was the daughter of the late John and Eunice Williams Rainey.
Throughout her life, Viva embraced her role as a wife, mother and grandmother, as a guiding light for her family. In 1978, she was united in marriage to Charles Lowell Davis; he preceded her in death on July 13, 1986. Viva, who was also affectionately known as “Dee” or “Vi”, devoted her life to her family and enjoyed serving her Lord; her warm and charming personality brought warmth and love to all who knew her. For many years, she sang in the choir at her church, Oak Ridge Baptist Church and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. For 14 years, she worked in retail management at T. J. Maxx; she also served as a store clerk for Bob Riggs Stores; she loved cooking at Skyway and will lovingly be remembered for her delicious chicken and dumplings. She served as a nurse’s aide at Dry Ridge Convalescent Home; much fulfillment came from her love for gardening, traveling to Las Vegas, listening to Gaither’s music, visiting Natural Bridge, reading and solving puzzle books.
She leaves behind a true legacy of love, a family she nurtured, that will forever inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed by her three daughters: Karen Fitzgerald of Del Rio, TN, Donna Rae Lewis of Independence, KY, Tina (Gregory) Bray of Florence, KY; one step-son: Steven Charles (Debbie) Davis of Jamestown, KY; three grandchildren: Greg Chipman, Jason Lewis, Barry Waylon Bray and one great-grandchild, Logan Combs. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Barry Alan Sowder; two step-sons: David Davis, Greg Davis; three brothers: Albert Rainey, Oscar Clay Rainey, Clifford Ray Rainey; one sister, Dorothy Pearl Harlow and a granddaughter, Rachael Combs.
Visitation will be Sunday November 8, 2026 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Stanley Funeral Homes – Williamstown. Funeral services will be Sunday November 8th at 2:00 with Rev. Jay Holt officiating. Committal services will follow in Williamstown Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her late husband, Charles Lowell Davis.
Memorial contributions may be made in Viva’s memory to: Stanley Funeral Homes, P.O. Box 130, Williamstown, KY 41097.
